A select brown-skinned shallot variety which gives you good fleshy bulbs with a distinct flavour. They are a very good preserving variety, good for storage for several months.
20 planting bulbs produce 20 full bulbs in summer the following year. That works out to be around 25p for every bulb of home-grown and flavoursome shallot perfect for fish dishes including salmon en croute.
Shallot bulbs store really well given the right conditions. All you need to do is make sure they are kept in their mesh bags and hung up in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. A semi-heated or connected garage or a loft is perfect. Look to plant within a month.
