How to Grow Sweetcorn

Sow APRIL – MAY – JUNE
Harvest AUGUST – SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER

SOW INDOORS from April to May, 1in (2.5cm) deep in clean pots or module trays of firm pre-watered compost. Place in warmth of 18-21*c (65-70*f). Keep soil moist at all times.

SOW OUTDOORS in May, 1in (2.5cm) deep where you wish to grow them. Sow in a block 18in (45cm) apart. Keep soil moist at all times.

PLANT OUT May and June. Harden off young plants before planting out in blocks of 4 plants. Each plant should be 18in (45cm) apart with 18in (45cm) between each row. Protect from frost.

GROWING
Mulch plants and make sure they are stable. If roots begin to show at the surface cover with more soil.

TIP
Water well when in flower and gentle shake the stem so the pollen falls onto the cobs.
